I have been so impressed and energized by the excitement and enthusiasm I have observed as we begin preparations for the upcoming school year. After meeting the staff and listening to their ideas for the Freshman Center, I am confident the student transition to the high school will be a positive experience.
My vision for the Freshman Center is to provide an atmosphere conducive to maximum learning while easing the minds of the freshmen in the process. I believe that the freshman experience should not be fraught with anxiety. Students should feel connected to their school, teachers, and peers. In addition, the center will provide innovative teaching through the use of technology and shared common goals. The Seaman Freshman Center will be a model of exemplary learning and a place that other schools around the state will want to emulate.
The staff will meet the students’ needs through teaming and collaboration. Students will be placed on a team, and the teachers will be provided time to discuss the needs of the students on their team. Students will have the opportunity to focus on their future through their required career class. The importance of an education will be established through the career curriculum. Additionally, the freshman center will provide multiple opportunities for students to be involved in their school. Students will be required to belong to at least one school club, activity, or sport. The year will start with the freshmen learning all about the exciting possibilities at the high school from which they can choose.
The Freshman Center will be a premier school, an example for others to follow. The students’ experiences will allow for growth both intellectually and emotionally. Every student will be provided the tools needed to succeed. I look forward to the future of the Freshman Center and its positive impact on the students and district.
