Standardized Policies for Extra-Curricular Activities
Seaman High School believes that school activities are a positive
influence for students and the community. The expectation for all
of our students is to be lawful in the conduct of their daily
lives. Students who voluntarily represent Seaman High School in
various activities are held to a high standard of conduct. The
following guidelines reinforce the expectation of good conduct and
positive representation of USD 345 by students who participate in
Seaman High School athletic and extra-curricular programs.
Participation in extra-curricular activities is a privilege. This
privilege is available to a student for as long as the student
complies with District policies, KSHSAA policies, and coach/sponsor
rules.
Illegal Drug Infractions:
Students must not use, be under the influence, or have possession
of illegal drugs on school grounds, at a school activity, or while
representing Seaman High School. Representing Seaman High School
begins once a student enrolls and henceforth includes weekends,
summer months, and school holidays. Any student suspected of an
offense shall be notified and afforded an opportunity to present
his/her side of the situation. The parent/guardian will also be
notified. Verification of illegal drug infractions will come in one
of the following formats:
a. Self admitted involvement by the student or his/her
parent/guardian
b. Witnessed student involvement by the sponsor, coach, or staff
member
c. Verification by an official law enforcement report
d. Investigation by school officials, coaches, or sponsors
e. Positive result of a certified drug test (pending the adoption
of a random drug testing policy)
If proper verification of student involvement in the use,
possession, or under the influence of illegal drugs exists, the
student will (1) be removed from all extra-curricular activities
for the remainder of the academic year, (2) be required to complete
a substance abuse intervention program, at the parent/guardian’s
expense, before returning to any KSHSAA or extra-curricular
activity and (3) be subject to school policies regarding student
behavior.
Alcohol Infractions:
Students must not use, be under the influence, or have possession
of alcohol on school grounds, at a school activity, or while
representing Seaman High School. Representing Seaman High School
begins once a student enrolls and henceforth includes weekends,
summer months, and school holidays. Any student suspected of an
offense shall be notified and afforded an opportunity to present
his/her side of the situation. The parent/guardian will also be
notified. Verification of alcohol infractions will come in one of
the following formats:
a. Self admitted involvement by the student or his/her
parent/guardian
b. Witnessed student involvement by the sponsor, coach, or staff
member
c. Verification by an official law enforcement report
d. Investigation by school officials, coaches, or sponsors
e. Positive result of a certified drug test (pending the adoption
of a random drug testing policy)
If proper verification of student involvement in the use,
possession, or under the influence of alcohol exists, the student
will be (1) subject to school policies regarding student behavior
and (2) face the following consequences.
1. First offense: The student will be suspended for the next two
competition days at the same level of competition as he/she has
been competing prior to the infraction. If there are less than two
competition days left in the student’s current activity, the
suspension will carry over to the student’s next activity season of
competition. If the student is participating in more than one
activity simultaneously during the same season, the consequences
will be imposed in each activity. When the violation occurs while
the student is not currently involved in an activity, the
consequence will be imposed at the beginning of the student’s next
season of completed competition, where the student finished in good
standing. Additional penalties may be imposed at the discretion of
the coach/sponsor.
2. Second offense: The student will be suspended for the remainder
of the current activity’s season; however, the student will forfeit
no less than (5) total competition days. All stipulations outlined
in the first offense’s guidelines apply to the second offense.
Further, the student is required to complete a substance abuse
intervention program, at the parent/guardian’s expense, before
returning to any KSHSAA or extra-curricular activity.
3. Third offense: The student will forfeit one calendar year of
competition. Further, the student is required to complete a
substance abuse intervention program, at the parent/guardian’s
expense, before returning to any KSHSAA or extra-curricular
activity.
4. Fourth offense: The student will forfeit all remaining
eligibility at Seaman High School in extra-curricular
activities.
Tobacco Infractions:
Students must not use tobacco on school grounds, at a school
activity, or while representing Seaman High School. Representing
Seaman High School begins once a student enrolls and henceforth
includes weekends, summer months, and school holidays. Any student
suspected of a tobacco offense shall be notified and afforded an
opportunity to present his/her side of the situation. The
parent/guardian will also be notified. Verification of tobacco
infractions will come in one of the following formats:
a. Self admitted involvement by the student or his/her
parent/guardian
b. Witnessed student involvement by the sponsor, coach, or staff
member
c. Verification by an official law enforcement report
d. Investigation by school officials, coaches, or sponsors
e. Positive result of a certified drug test (pending the adoption
of a random drug testing policy)
If proper verification of student involvement in the use of tobacco
exists, the student will be (1) subject to school policies
regarding student behavior and (2) will be suspended for the next
one competition day at the same level of competition as he/she has
been competing at prior to the infraction. If there is less than
one competition day left in the student’s current activity, the
suspension will carry over to the student’s next activity season of
competition. If the student is participating in more than one
activity simultaneously during the same season, the consequences
will be imposed in each activity. When the violation occurs while
the student is not currently involved in an activity, the
consequence will be imposed at the beginning of the student’s next
season of completed competition, where the student finished in good
standing. Further penalties may be imposed at the discretion of the
coach/sponsor.
