Congratulations to Seaman Middle School teacher Kyle Johnson, who has been named a National History Day Behring Teacher Ambassador. Kyle was also named Kansas National History Day Junior High Teacher of the Year in 2013, which put him in the running for this Behring Ambassador award. Thirty-six teachers from across the country were selected for the distinction; Kyle is one of only two teachers in Kansas to be recognized. The winners all receive a small stipend and attend a special three-day seminar in Denver in August.
Kyle has done extraordinary work with SMS students who compete in the National History Day program. Under Kyle's tutelage, SMS students have won in multiple categories at the Kansas District #3 regional and statewide competitions the past five years, with several students advancing on to national competition.
The 2014 Kansas National History Day District #3 Regional Competition is happening at Washburn University on Saturday, February 22. Good luck to Kyle and his students at the competition.
